Introduction:
The exhibition "L'Excellence Suisse - Switzerland's most precious coins" we held at the start of this year in the gallery of our auction house generated a tremendous response. Thanks to this positive reaction, and the international reach of this special event, we received some very fine objects for the auction. As a result, rarities that had sometimes languished in a safe for decades saw the light of day again, and will now find their way into another collection. The offerings include single pieces and collections, from antiquity to the present day, from the Roman denarius to the rare «Vreneli», from the exquisitely designed shooting medal to the extensive accumulation of bullion coins.

Estimates and Starting Prices
Starting Prices
Lots, large lots and accumulations containing more than one coin are offered at low starting prices. Starting prices are not intended as estimates. Experience shows that the hammer prices for such lots are several times the starting prices.
An example from the Rapp auction 2016
Lot no. 3 from the 2016 catalogue Fine collection of antique Greek coins, including fne pieces from Syrakus, Athens and Asia Minor. A total of more than 75 coins is included.
Starting price: CHF 3’000.- / Hammer price: CHF 24’000.-
Estimates
Coins offered as singles are designated by very conservative estimates. Single lots usually reach the upper range of our estimates or more.
An example from the Rapp auction 2016
Lot no. 85 from the 2016 catalogue: 100 Francs 1925 B, almost mint.
Estimate: CHF 6’000.- to 8’000.- / Hammer price: CHF 14’000.-
